August 2010
Welcome back to Term 3!! We hope you had an enjoyable break from routine. Please take some time to read our monthly newsletter so you don’t miss out on any important information.
Thanks to all those families who have kindly donated craft boxes, plants, pots and cushions to the Preschool, it has been very much appreciated by the staff.
Class lists are being finalised. If you DO NOT wish for your details to be added, see Jen ASAP. Everyone will receive a copy in their pockets in the next few weeks.
Fees are now in pockets.
First instalment (50%) is due by Tuesday 3rd August for the 2 day families and Friday 6th August for the 3 Day families. If we do not receive payment by these dates, $11 will be added per week for late fees. Please remember that EFT payments must be in by the day before to allow transfer time. Thank you.
Morning Tea Roster: Thank you to all those parents who have already put their name down this year to help with Morning Tea, the children and staff have really appreciated your help both in the classrooms and with preparing Morning tea! If you are interested in helping us in the morning, there are still lots of spaces on this Term’s Roster!
Morning Munchies are on again this term. Tuesday 17th August for the 2 day families and Friday 20th August for the 3 day families. Come along from 9am and enjoy a cuppa with the staff and families!
Church Service Sunday 29th August at 9.30am. This is one of the most memorable events your child will be part of at Preschool and so please add the date to your diary now so you can come. We have already started rehearsing the many different songs and the children are getting excited. It will be a very special day as we will also be celebrating our 60th Anniversary!! An invitation will go into pockets very soon.
Library Reminder: If you would like your child to be part of Library all you need to do is pay $5 for the year. Library is on every Tuesday for our 2 Day Group and every Thursday for our 3 Day Group. This Term Anne Cleary (Thomas and Elise’s mum) is continuing on as our 2 Day Librarian and Sarah Healy (Jeremy’s mum) is our 3 Day Librarian for the Term. Please remember to take your child to the Book Corner outside on their Library day where they can choose a book to borrow.
Parent Teacher interviews. Each year, we set aside some time to discuss your child’s development. This year, we will be having Parent/Teacher Interviews between 2pm and 3pm from Monday 23rd August til Monday 3oth August. Timetables for each class will be kept near the computers in each room so please add your name. These are only short interviews lasting 10 minutes, so come ready with any questions, concerns or comments. Please remember that Jen and Kayleen are here at any time to talk throughout the year about your child’s development.
Father’s & Grandfather’s Mornings – Family plays a very important role at our Preschool, which is why, every year, we like to celebrate Father’s day by inviting Dad’s, Grandfather’s, Uncles or a special friend to Preschool. This year, we will be celebrating on:
*2 Day children Tuesday 31st August
*3 Day children Wednesday 1st September
From 9am – 11am.
Play clothes MUST be worn, and mobiles switched off. We will be getting the Dad’s involved in finger painting, clay work, block building, wood work and many other exciting activities. Invitations will be out closer to the date! Oh and of course, we will be supplying a special morning tea to keep energy levels up!
School Readiness Workshop – If you child is going to school – be it your first child or last – this is a MUST attend workshop!! It will be held here at Preschool on Wednesday 8th September from 7.30pm so book a babysitter NOW! Invite as many friends as you’d like, the more the merrier. You’ll learn about ways you can support you’re child’s transition to school, and different things you can do to make school life easier for you and your child.
Preschool Sports Day
In the last week of Term we will be holding a Sports day for both the 2 Day and 3 Day Groups. This is in aid of raising money for our Sponsor Child Paul Michael. You may have noticed the children practising their running, jumping and ball skills outside and we look forward to planning some fun games for them. The dates will be:
2 Day Group – Tuesday 21st September
3 Day Group – Friday 24th September
A note will be placed in your child’s pocket closer to the date!
Low Waste Preschool: Recently staff have noticed an increase in packaged foods being sent to preschool in children’s lunches. Please remember that we have worked very hard to become a low waste Preschool!
Please follow these ideas to help reduce the waste we create:
*Using small washable containers for yoghurt/dried fruit/cheese and crackers rather than pre-packaged mini yoghurts, cheese sticks, and Le Snacks.
*Use a sectioned lunch box instead of plastic cling wrap, foil or greased paper. This is also easier for the children to open!!
*A piece of fruit whole is cheaper, healthier and better for the environment than fruit cups
*A drink bottle filled with water instead of poppers.
Not only are these ideas better for our environment, there are often healthier and CHEAPER!
All the staff are trying hard too! Let us know of any other suggestions!!
What have we been up to?
The 2 Day Tawny’s are exploring Folk stories and Fairy Tales and have enjoyed making bread and Gingerbread men! The 2 Day Bilbies are extending on the children’s current interest in transport and learning new action songs.
The 3 day children are continuing with their mask making as they learn to create with paper mache and plasticine.
All the children have begun practising songs for our Church Service and preparing special artwork for the day.
